Could an Updated Mitsubishi Montero be in the Works?

It is no secret that Mitsubishi was considered a powerhouse at the top of the industry back in the 1990s. Since then, things have slowed slightly, but it is very clear that Mitsubishi is slowly reinventing itself into a car company for the modern age. Of course that doesn't mean that it will be giving up everything that got it to the top of the heap in the first place, in fact some rumors about the return of an old brand favorite were recently confirmed by the company CEO.

At the end of last month, Mitsubishi CEO, Osamu Masuko, spoke in an interview and remarked that we will likely see the legendary Mitsubishi Montero SUV make a return to the production lines by the end of the decade.

For those who don't remember, the Mitsubishi Montero was/is a very powerful and capable SUV with a lot of off-road potential. It's powerful drivetrain and modern interior made it unlike anything else available on the market, but it was discontinued back in 2006.

With Mitsubishi making its big switch to hybrid, electric, and plug-in hybrid vehicles, we are hoping that the Montero will be revived in an equally-powerful but emission-free form. Several other automakers are developing electric vehicles capable of handling craggy off-road conditions so it is certainly within the realm of possibility that a fuel-sipping Mitsubishi full-size SUV is back on the market in the next few years.

Of course, much of this is speculation and we will have to wait for more official word to come down from company headquarters. Until then, we hope that you will take the time to visit us at the Gary Lang Mitsubishi showroom located at 1121 S. Route 31 McHenry, IL.
